Q: Is the path you are on what you envisioned during your college yearsA: Not at all. I envisioned myself as a pediatrician during college. During medical school, I fell in love with neonatology (working only in the neonatal intensive care unit in the hospital and caring for newborns during their hospitalizations following birth). When I discovered neonatology, I thought that was my career. Seven years ago, that all changed again when I was given an opportunity to work for a company that makes human milk-based fortifiers (to add to their mother’s milk) to help nourish very premature babies (think babies born weighing less than three pounds). I now am the chief medical officer for that company, Prolacta Bioscience, and I truly love my job! I believe I am helping premature babies throughout the world have better lives due to giving them better nutrition, growth, and development.
