GSU Softball Starts 14-Game Home Stretch Against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis and Elkins

With the impending weather Lady Pioneer Softball will have their home conference opener this Saturday against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Schedule change has also extended Glenville State's home stretch to 14 games. GSU closes out the weekend with the Senators of Davis and Elkins College.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers


Glenville State was able to pick up a win against the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. Kylie Burdick got the start for the Lady Pioneers and picked up her fourth win of the season. Designated player Haylee Stevens finished game two of the doubleheader a perfect 2-2 while scoring three runs. Seven of GSU's losses this season have been decided by two or fewer runs. 


The Lady Pioneers continue to have one of the top bullpens in the Mountain East Conference. As a unit, GSU's ERA of 3.33 sits fourth in the conference just two-tenths behind Fairmont State. While Glenville is hitting .251 as a team they rank fifth in on-base percentage.  


GSU by the Numbers

  • 18: Shelby Mcdaniels leads the Lady Pioneers in hits this season.
  • 87: Holly Brehm ranks first in the MEC for strikeouts.
  • .183: When Brehm is on the mound opponents have the third-lowest batting average in the conference. 
  • 3: Shelby Mcdaniels, Katelyn Richardson, and Makenna Negley all lead GSU in RBIs. 

A Look at the Bobcats


West Virginia Wesleyan has been a good run going (8-2) in their last ten. In their opening series against Fairmont State and Frostburg State Hannah Hudson picked up two wins. During the first outing, Hudson went seven innings and did not allow a single hit. While Hannah gave up three runs against the Bobcats she produced nine strikeouts. 


The Bobcats have been a balanced team this season. WVWC sits third in the MEC for batting average and second in ERA. Since the start of conference play West Virginia Wesleyan's ERA has dropped to 1.69. 


WVWC by the Numbers

  • 33: The Bobcats have made the seventh most errors in the conference. 
  • 2: Both Taylor Swartz and Morgan Norris are batting over .300 this season.  
  • 7: Hannah Hudson and Kendall Stoffel sit first in the MEC for wins. 
  • 18: West Virginia Wesleyan has allowed the third-fewest stoled bases. 

A Look at the Senators 


Davis and Elinks opened up conference play against Fairmont State and Frostburg State. While the Senators were swept by the Bobcats but picked up a win against the Falcons. In their win over Fairmont, Vanessa Hunt got the start for D&E. While Hunt pitched a foul game she would finish the day with seven walks. 


Through 23 games the Senators rank towards the bottom of the conference in team ERA. Davis and Elkins's bullpen has given up the second most hits in the MEC. D&E's bats have also been solid this season producing 166 hits which is third in the conference. 


D&E by the Numbers

  • .392: Linzey Allard sits 12th in the league for batting average. 
  • 5: Vanessa Hunt ranks fifth in the MEC for complete games.
  • 15: Allar Linzey and Anjolina Gutierrez are tied for tenth in the conference for RBIs.
  •  40: The Senators have allowed the third most stolen basses on the MEC.
